On commission from Oslo Militære Samfund, we renovated two restrooms in a culturally historic building - in close collaboration with the city heritage authority. A project where respect for the old mattered just as much as the quality of the new.

Oslo Militære Samfund is an institution with deep historical roots - and a building that carries them with pride. When the commission came in, it was not simply about refurbishing two restrooms. It was about doing it with a precision that both the building and its users deserve.
Our task was to deliver a complete solution for both restrooms - modern, functional and, at the same time, in dialogue with the building's original character.

Collaborating with the city heritage authority means working to preserve and protect cultural and historic values in the urban environment. The authority's role is to safeguard and communicate heritage sites and settings, and to advise on the conservation and development of buildings and city districts.
By working closely with their expertise in heritage conservation, we ensured the project complied with current regulations and best practice for preserving cultural heritage. Work that aligns well with our approach to the restoration of older buildings.

When a new room has to be woven into an old building, precision is everything. Angles, heights, material transitions and pipe runs - all of it must adapt to the building's existing structure without disturbing it.
As a centrally approved contractor, we engineered the solution together with our advisers and tradespeople, so that the heritage authority, the client and the users could all trust that the end result would stand the test of time.
Bjørn Ingvaldsen, project manager at VBKU

The two restrooms each took on their own character - close in tone, but with subtle differences in materials and detailing that reflect the rooms' different functions. A result that feels right in its setting, without crying out for attention.
Reassuring, durable and discreet - exactly as a public restroom in a culturally historic building should be.

A project that called for both craftsmanship and care - and VBKU delivered on both.
