The dream of a black, masculine bathroom was born when the client visited an exclusive venue on holiday in the USA. A good friend recommended us as the contractor, and the journey from dream to finished space could finally begin. The result is a unique, all-black bathroom with a lavish, custom-made Italian basin as the focal point and crown jewel of the room.

When the couple moved into the flat in Majorstua in Oslo, they spent the first year renovating the other rooms before it was finally the bathroom's turn. "In there, the 80s were alive and well, with tiles so ugly they were almost a little cool. But only almost," the client recalls.

By removing a passage leading into the bathroom, the room also gained a few extra square metres - a clever solution borrowed from a neighbour. "We visited a neighbour who had done this when they renovated their bathroom, and we thought it was a brilliant idea. Apart from that, their all-white bathroom was the complete opposite of what we wanted."

Black subway tiles, a black wall-hung toilet, black appliances, black fixtures. With so much black, good lighting became essential.
There are quite a few light points fitted in the bright ceiling. On top of that we have a mirror with integrated lighting, and a light strip under the cabinet that is always on and doubles as a night light. If we want to, we can get proper flood lighting in there.- Homeowner, Majorstua

Together with the interior architect, it was decided that the bathroom would have dark tiles with a concrete look. That meant the Italian basin could be ordered in the same kind of tile, creating a cohesive, bold design.
It might sound strange, but what we are most pleased about is that we put so much money into that basin. It is the jewel of the room and makes the bathroom truly stand out.- Homeowner
The couple lived and worked from home during the renovation, so it was easy to follow the progress along the way. "We were warmly welcomed from the very first moment, and there was never any doubt that these were people who knew what they were doing. We felt looked after and kept informed throughout, and the craftsmen kept every appointment and turned up when they were supposed to. That was very important to us."
